Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 28 July 2026

Life in the UK Test Prep

In short: the app works without an account on our servers. Your profile and study data stay on your device. We use no advertising and no cross-app tracking, and analytics are switched off unless you turn them on yourself.

1. Introduction

LCS Dev ('we', 'us', or 'our') operates the Life in the UK Test Prep mobile application (the 'App'). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information when you use our App.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. LCS Dev is the data controller for the processing described here.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

When you create a profile in the App you may enter an email address and a password. The password is used only to check that it meets our strength rules at the moment you type it — it is never saved, on your device or anywhere else. Your email address is stored only on your device, in its secure storage (iOS Keychain or Android EncryptedSharedPreferences), and is not transmitted to us. Because there is no account on our servers, this profile is a local label rather than a sign-in: it does not protect access to the App. You can also continue as a Guest without entering any details.

If you email our support address, we receive the contents of your message and your email address so that we can reply.

2.2 Information stored on your device

The following is written to your device's local storage so the App can remember where you are. It is not uploaded to us:

Because this data lives on your device, deleting the App removes it. You can also clear it at any time from within the App — see section 7.

2.3 Purchase information

If you buy Premium, the payment itself is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We never see or store your payment card details.

We use RevenueCat, Inc. to check whether your purchase entitles you to Premium. To do this, RevenueCat processes a randomly generated app user ID, your store receipt, and basic device and country information. It does not receive your name or email address. RevenueCat acts as our data processor; see revenuecat.com/privacy for details.

2.4 Optional analytics and crash reports

Analytics are off by default. Nothing is collected and no connection to our analytics provider is made unless you switch on 'Share Anonymous Usage Data' under More → Privacy in the App. You can switch it back off at any time, which stops collection immediately.

If you do turn it on, we use PostHog to receive:

We do not send your name, email address, password, individual answers, bookmarks or any content you type. There is no session recording, no screen recording, no advertising identifier and no location tracking, and IP-based geolocation is disabled. PostHog acts as our data processor on our EU-hosted instance; see posthog.com/privacy for details.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your personal data, use it for advertising, or build advertising profiles. The App contains no advertising SDKs and no cross-app tracking.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Under UK GDPR, we process your data on the following legal grounds:

5. Data Storage and Security

Your study progress and preferences are stored in your device's app storage. Your profile details and Premium entitlement flag are stored in your device's secure storage — the iOS Keychain or Android EncryptedSharedPreferences — which is encrypted by the operating system and protected by your device passcode.

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In particular, data held on your device is only as secure as the device itself — we recommend using a passcode and keeping your operating system up to date.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this policy. Data on your device remains until you delete your account in the App, reset your progress, or uninstall the App. If you contact support, we retain correspondence for up to 2 years to help with any follow-up queries. Purchase records held by RevenueCat and the app stores are retained under their own policies. If you opted into analytics, the events already sent are retained by PostHog for up to 12 months and then deleted; switching analytics off stops any further collection.

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at costadev@outlook.com. We will respond within one month.

To delete your account and the personal data stored on your device from within the App, go to More → Account & Data → Delete Account. This permanently removes your local profile, study progress and related preferences, and it also switches analytics off and discards the random analytics identifier. If you only want to clear your study statistics but keep your profile, use Reset Progress in the same section.

To withdraw consent for analytics without deleting anything else, switch off 'Share Anonymous Usage Data' under More → Privacy. Collection stops immediately and no further events are sent.

Premium purchases are managed by Apple or Google and are not cancelled by deleting your in-app account; you can restore eligible purchases via Restore Purchases. Because your data is held on your device rather than on our servers, a data access or portability request will normally only concern support correspondence.

8. Analytics and Third-Party Services

The App contains no advertising SDK. We do not track your behaviour across other apps or websites, we do not use cookies, and we do not use device advertising identifiers. This website is a set of static pages and sets no cookies.

The App includes an analytics and crash-reporting component (PostHog) that remains dormant unless you opt in under More → Privacy. See section 2.4 for exactly what it sends when enabled.

The third parties involved in running the App are:

These third parties have their own privacy policies governing their use of data. We encourage you to review their policies. If we ever change what we collect, we will update this policy and its effective date before doing so.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Your study data stays on your device and is not transferred anywhere. However, our purchase-verification provider (RevenueCat) and the app stores operate servers in the United States, so purchase-related data is processed outside the UK. If you opt into analytics, that data is sent to PostHog's European Union region; PostHog is a US company, so some support access from the United States is possible. Where such transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the 'Effective Date' at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

12. Contact Us
